HP's Eliteboard G1a stuffs a full PC into something that looks basically like a keyboard. Plug in a monitor and mouse, leave one slim body on the desk. Market timing pointed at March 2026.
The idea is old: think home computers of the 1980s where the machine lived under your hands. HP is dusting that off for offices that hate towers.
Why it might work now
Chips run cooler. Ports can live in a dock or the board itself. IT likes fewer boxes to cable. Desks look cleaner for video calls.
Why it might annoy
Upgrades are harder when the PC is the keyboard. Spill a coffee and you may lose both input and computer. Heat under the palms is a design risk.
Eliteboard is a serious form experiment for work PCs, not a toy. If repair and ports are sane, it earns a niche. If it feels like a sealed gadget, Commodore nostalgia will not save it.
A keyboard PC lives or dies on ports, thermals, and whether you can attach a real display without drama. Treat demos as theater until you try your actual apps. Novelty form factors fail when everyday tasks feel compromised.
