By late April 2025, prompt-to-app stopped being one startup's gimmick. Lovable's 2.0 moment around the 24th is a fair anchor: tools like Lovable, Bolt, and v0 stitch UI, backend bits, integrations, and deploy into a weekend story.
The promise
"Describe it, run it." Founders taste product without a sprint plan. Designers taste working buttons.
The bill later
Auth edge cases, data models, observability, and the human who must maintain generated sprawl. Weekend apps are cheap to start and expensive to respect.
This is the year anyone could "make an app." It is also the year teams relearned that shipping is not owning. Keep MVP discipline nearby when the prompt feels too magical.
Compare the weekend build to a contractor who drywalls over old wiring. Looks finished. Fails inspection. Prompt-to-app is drywall. Someone still has to own the wiring diagram.
The details will keep shifting. The underlying tradeoff in this moment stays clear enough to write down while it is fresh.
Write it down now, while the framing is still contested, not after the category gets a boring name and a checklist.
