Where the story frays
Reports cluster around heat, battery life, slow responses, cloud dependence, and Laser Ink that is clever in a dark room and awkward outdoors. A pin that needs the network for basic tricks feels less like freedom from the phone.
Did dedicated AI hardware earn its keep?
If the phone already runs the same models, the pin must win on speed, dignity, or focus. Early owners are not convinced. Hardware AI needs a job the slab cannot do. "No screen" is an aesthetic, not a job.
April is when hype debts come due. Humane asked for belief. Customers are sending receipts.
Some buyers wanted a fashion statement. Some wanted liberation from doomscrolling. The early verdict is that neither group got a polished daily driver.
That does not kill every screenless idea. It does punish shipping theater as if it were infrastructure. Hardware needs boring reliability before it earns ideology.
