People are walking outside in Apple Vision Pro. Is this what the future looks like?

A few days after launch, the internet filled with people wearing Vision Pro on sidewalks, trains, and in grocery aisles. Even if those clips are a tiny minority, they ask a loud social question.

Public space meets face computer

Headphones already isolate. A headset that paints your view isolates harder. Passersby cannot tell if you see them or a browser window. That asymmetry feels rude before it feels futuristic.

Is this the future, or a stunt week?

Most owners will use it at home. Outdoor clips are content. Still, content trains norms. If tech culture celebrates zoning out in shared space, the product story shifts from productivity to withdrawal.

Spatial computers need a social etiquette layer, not only eye tracking. This week is a messy preview of that fight: impressive silicon, awkward sidewalks, and a reminder that gadgets reshape behavior as much as they reshape screens.

Cities already negotiate phones at dinner tables. A face-worn computer raises the stakes: eye contact becomes optional hardware. Even a joke video trains the next buyer to wonder if public MR is brave or rude.

The useful reaction is not mockery. It is asking what norms we want before the headsets get lighter and cheaper.
