Apple Vision Pro is on sale in the US as of early February 2024. Eye tracking and hand gestures look magical in demos. visionOS feels like a real OS, not a toy launcher. I still will not buy one.
What is genuinely impressive
The sense that windows hang in your room. The precision of looking to select. The bet that spatial computing can be a daily workspace, not only a game room.
Why the cart stays empty
$3,499 is laptop money times several, for a headset you wear on your face. It is heavy social friction. Battery packs and travel cases remind you this is still expedition gear.
Most of my work is text, browser, and calls. Flat screens already win there. Until a weekly job becomes easier in Vision Pro than on a MacBook, it remains a fascinating island.

I can admire the engineering without writing a check. Plenty of Apple products started niche and became normal. Plenty also stayed niche. Vision Pro, on day three of sales, still asks me to rearrange my desk, my face, and my budget for an unclear weekly win.
That is enough reason to wait, watch the returns cycle, and let someone else debug the strap.
